Uptown Flutes: The Virtuoso Flute Ensemble

ABOUT UPTOWN FLUTES:

 Artists International Award-winning, dynamic, acclaimed virtuoso ensemble UpTown Flutes presents an ever-changing repertoire of music that is evocative, enchanting, always appealing, and makes full use of the rich tone colors of the flute family: piccolo, C flute, alto flute, and bass flute.

 Unlike a flute orchestra or flute choir, UpTown Flutes is truly a chamber ensemble, with each person playing a unique part, combining in myriad ways. UpTown Flutes actively commissions new works and is dedicated to bringing new music to a wider audience, embracing a wide spectrum of musical styles.

 UpTown Flutes has just recorded their fourth CD, STREAMING DREAMS, including works by the ensemble’s two resident composers Elise Carter and John McMurtery, as well as renowned composer Nancy Galbraith.

 UpTown Flutes’ third CD, "21st Century Gems" features world premieres of two pieces written for the ensemble by internationally known composer Peter Bacchus. The CD prompted composer Catherine McMichael to describe it as “Fabulous work. It casts a spell...rich, full, strong...fabulous texture, color, musicality; compelling playing!”

 UpTown Flutes’ Carnegie Hall debut was described in New York Concert Review as "organic... mesmerizing.... UpTown Flutes deserves major attention as they are top-notch and one of a kind."

AUGUST 2011: UpTown Flutes showcased at the National Flute Association Convention in Charlotte, NC performing Monochrome V by Peter Schickele, Triptych for Flutes by L. Elise Carter and Dream Sequence by John McMurtery. 

AUGUST 2009:  UpTown Flutes showcaseded at the National Flute Association Flute Convention in NYC presenting Nonet and Serenade by Peter Bacchus and Within by Ian Clarke. Rebecca Vega conducted the High School Flute Choir - a select group of students from aroung the US and Mexico; Triptych by L. Elise Carter was written for and performed by the HSFC and Dr Virginia Schulze-Johnson was coordinator for the NFA HS Flute Choir.
